On February 29, 2008, MXTabs.net relaunched as the first legitimately licensed site designed to provide musicians with access to free tablatures, while also compensating music publishers and songwriters for their intellectual property. As with other user generated content sites, MXTabs.net users are encouraged to create, edit, rate, and review their own tablature interpretations of their favourite songs. However, unlike other user-generated content sites, only songs that have received explicit permission from participating copyright owners will be made available on-line.

I had to learn a few tunes on guitar for mother’s day, so I called Justin Walker Music. At first, I only wanted to know a few tabs and how to read/play them, but after a couple of weeks, I was learning chord progressions and proper picking techniques. I was provided simple, easy to understand steps that took my playing where I wanted to go and more. I’ll continue taking lessons because of the inspiration for growth I’ve found within.
Guitar lessons at the Los Angeles Guitar Academy prepare advanced guitar for rigorous admission standards and auditions required by highly-competitive music schools and conservatories, including University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Manhattan Conservatory of Music, Pepperdine University, University of California Riverside, and Northwestern University. Former LAGA students have successfully pursued both master’s and bachelor’s degree programs, as well as graduate diploma and performance certificate programs.
In response, GTU’s site owner(s) immediately created a website named Music Student and Teacher Organization (MuSATO) to attempt to reposition themselves from an illegal-copyrighted-materials provider to an “education provider”. MuSATO’s main objective is to use fair use as their rationale to publish tablature free of charge. By claiming to be an educational provider, they do not have to obtain publication rights nor pay royalties to the original composers. MuSATO claims to be educational by classifying users downloading tablatures as “music students” and transcribers as “music teachers.”
As well as presenting the Silent Night easy guitar chords, there’s a jazzy arrangement with some extended chord shapes, and a solo guitar version of the song included in this lesson for those that want to spice up the tune a bit in your playing.

If you follow our blog, then you’ve already seen the best tips and tricks for learning guitar chords, but what about playing the infamous F chord on guitar? In this blog post, we’ll address common myths about the F chord and give you some helpful advice that will make playing it more easy. Misconceptions About the F Chord The six-string F chord is one of the hardest standard chord shape to play on the guitar. When many people try to play the F chord on guitar (and often succeed) it’s with
Another method would be to push the pins out from inside the guitar, using a hard object such as a coin. Pushing the string further into the guitar as you do this sometimes helps since the end of the string is wound and “wedges” itself in with the peg. Once the pegs pop free you can pull them out of the peg holes.
As you start practicing, your fingers may be sore for a while, but that will pass with four to six weeks. One thing I want to warn you about is that new guitar players can get frustrated when they can’t play clean chords because they try to switch between chords too soon. Often, they try to switch chords before they’ve really learned and memorized each chord shape. For now, don’t worry about switching chords and just work on each shape, getting them down, and going right to them.
Some string makers also offer extra-light and extra-hard tension strings as well as middling sets with designations such as medium-hard. One recommended way to find the tension that’s right for your playing style and guitar is to first zero in on your preferred brand and wound string material. After those factors are established, try a set of each tension available in that string set to determine which works best with your ears and fingers.
I specialize in kids and young adults, but am happy to welcome students of all ages! When working with songwriting students, or students who wish to sing along with their guitar, I am happy to include basic vocal work into our lessons.

First off, there are two more techniques I want to talk about. These are fret placement and finger posture. Place your first finger on the first fret of the B string. For fret placement, you’ll want to have your finger right behind the fret. In the video, you can see that the further away from the fret I place my finger, the more buzz the note has.
The reason is simple. Learning guitar is not exactly the easiest thing in the world, and to make it worse by teaching dull exercises is the no 1. reason why beginners quit playing. Our beginner guitar lessons focus on learning to play famous songs right off the bat, which keeps the learning process interesting, since our students learn to play real songs, to which they’ve probably been listening to for years. This motivates our students to practice, and thus improve their technique. This is the secret to learning to play guitar.
There are separate chord-forms for chords having their root note on the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth strings. For a six-string guitar in standard tuning, it may be necessary to drop or omit one or more tones from the chord; this is typically the root or fifth. The layout of notes on the fretboard in standard tuning often forces guitarists to permute the tonal order of notes in a chord.
Learn how to play guitar with these easy songs for beginners. Each song is a beginner lesson that shows you how to play the chords, strum along and/or pick the notes. New songs added all the time so check back!
Welcome to video eight in the Beginner Guitar Quick-Start Series. In this lesson, we’re going to go through your first two chords. You’ll learn A minor 7 and C major. These two guitar chords will be useful for you because you’ll be using them often through your guitar career. A minor 7 is good to start with because it is fairly easy, and C major is great chord to learn how to play clean sounding chords.
Before the development of the electric guitar and the use of synthetic materials, a guitar was defined as being an instrument having “a long, fretted neck, flat wooden soundboard, ribs, and a flat back, most often with incurved sides.” The term is used to refer to a number of chordophones that were developed and used across Europe, beginning in the 12th century and, later, in the Americas. A 3,300-year-old stone carving of a Hittite bard playing a stringed instrument is the oldest iconographic representation of a chordophone and clay plaques from Babylonia show people playing an instrument that has a strong resemblance to the guitar, indicating a possible Babylonian origin for the guitar.
Perhaps the most common implementation is 1-5-1′, that is, the root note, a note a fifth above the root, and a note an octave above the root. When the strings are a fourth apart, especially the lower four strings in standard tuning, the lowest note is played with some fret on some string and the higher two notes are two frets higher on the next two strings. Using standard tuning, notes on the first or second string must be played one fret higher than this. (A bare fifth without octave doubling is the same, except that the highest of the three strings, in parentheses below, is not played. A bare fifth with the bass note on the second string has the same fingering as one on the fifth or sixth string.)
The other consideration is that if you’re not careful, you could actually end up spending more at Justin Guitar than the price of a full year membership from the websites listed above. How you ask? Well, all the free lessons at Justin Guitar lead you towards buying a guide book or DVD course. So it’s free, but with strings attached. That’s how most things work on the Internet.
Throw in an active community, regular blogs, huge variety of acoustic guitar lessons and electric guitar lessons and a host of useful tools, and it’s clear to see why 1.9 million guitarists use GuitarTricks.
For chords, the numbers to play are shown, so, for example: a C major (CEG) chord (on a C diatonic instrument): 456e However, they may simplify it, especially when playing blues. For chords, it was common to just play three or two holes instead (sometimes even just one), especially when the instrument is not of the same key. For example, in the blues progression in G (G G G G7 C C G G D7 D7 G G) it is common to use a C diatonic instrument, and notate the following:
You could play the same 3 notes you just played only using your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fingers. Cramming all 3 fingers in at the 4th fret could be difficult, but this may be easier than the other options for some people. You could even try playing these 3 notes with your 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers.
If you’re an everyday steel string player, but once in a while, you need that special nylon-string sound that makes the girls all sappy, consider your choice of guitar. Changing from a folk steel-string to a classical nylon-string can really mess up your touch. Fortunately there are some nylon-string guitars with neck width and string spacing more like a folk steel-string, For the same reason, use heavier-tension nylon strings. After playing a steel-string until your fingers bleed, a slinky little nylon thread is going to put your hands in shock.
Guitarists have their own special system of music notation called guitar tablature, or “guitar tabs” for short. Using guitar tabs, a guitarist can play a wide variety of music without ever having to learn how to read standard sheet music. Though guitar tabs aren’t a perfect way of describing music, they’ve allowed newer generations of guitarists to quickly and easily share information about how to play songs across the globe via the internet. Every guitarist should have at least a basic understanding of how to read tablature – it’s the de facto shorthand for much of the guitar music you’ll find written out online.
